I was struck by a recent interview I watched with Dr. Oz. He spoke of how the brain needs fat to function and limiting it could spell disaster for your brain's capacity and your overall happiness.

The natural neuro-chemicals that you feed your brain or more specifically, the foods you eat, can determine a range of mental capabilities. Monounsaturated fats are one of the strongest mood enhancers out there.

Essential fatty acids are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids made from linolenic, linoleic, and oleic acids. The two essential forms are Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids and they are referred to as essential because the body cannot produce them on its on. They must be a part of your diet.

For optimal brain function, an adult needs 1.4 to 4.6 grams of Omega 3 and 8 to 14 grams of Omega 6 per day.
