A great deal has been written about the effects of nicotine, drugs, and alcohol on the unborn fetus. What's less well known is that these substances can affect male fertility, too, causing chromosomal damage, decrease in motility (the swimming rate of the sperm), and erectile dysfunction, say Leslie Schover and Anthony Thomas in Overcoming Male Infertility (John Wiley & Sons, 2000).
