The common medical reasons for having a Cesarean section (C section) are a baby in a breech position, a baby in a shoulder-first position, too large a head, prolonged labor, placenta blocking the birth canal and fetal distress. Cesarean sections require anesthesia. A cut is made in the lower abdomen and the uterus. The baby is delivered through the incision, and the whole procedure takes about ten minutes.
