When should I call my doctor about GERD?

Contact your doctor if:

  • Symptoms occur despite taking medication and making lifestyle changes.
  • Symptoms occur more often or at different times than before.
  • You notice any unusual or new symptoms or signs that your condition has changed or worsened.
  • You have any of the following symptoms:
  • chest pain
  • difficulty swallowing, called dysphagia
  • pain with swallowing, called odynophagia
  • weight loss
  • black or bloody stools
