Sinus congestion can be very uncomfortable and it doesn’t take long to get fed up with it. You may want to try some of the following sinus congestion home remedies until you find one that works for you.
The first thing to do is to make sure you are drinking lots of water. Keeping your body well hydrated helps to keep the mucous membranes in your sinuses moist, enabling mucous to move out from the sinuses. It also helps to soften the mucous itself. Using a humidifier achieves a similar thing. The humidified air softens the hardened mucous in your sinuses and lungs. To make your own humidifier, simply boil water, remove it from the heat source, cover your eyes and cheekbones with a cloth and lean over the hot water to inhale the steam for a few minutes. Some people recommend adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the water and inhaling the mixture. Another option is adding three or four drops of tea tree oil to your boiling water. Tea tree oil is known for its healing properties when it comes to fungal, bacterial or viral infections, and it can be an effective method for clearing sinus congestion.
You may want to try taking some oil of oregano drops, as it is believed that oil of oregano strengthens the body’s immune system. Add a couple of drops into your drink once a day and you should feel less congested within three to five days. If your nasal congestion is a result of high histamine levels, vitamin C may help you; it helps to reduce histamine levels and strengthens the immune system. It is recommended that you take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C three times a day to help with your sinus congestion.
