Koffka, Kurt

Koffka, Kurt (1886-1941), a German-American psychologist. With Wolfgang Khler and Max Wertheimer, Koffka was a founder of the Gestalt school of psychology. After receiving a Ph.D. from the University of Berlin in 1908, Koffka taught at German universities until 1924. He was a visiting professor at Cornell University and at the University of Wisconsin and was a professor of psychology at Smith College from 1927 until he died.

Koffka wrote The Growth of the Mind (English translation, 1924) and The Principles of Gestalt Psychology (1935).
