If your baby is awake but not paying much attention to you, you can help him become more alert.

To help your baby become more alert, try these three techniques:

Option A:

-If your baby is wrapped in a blanket, unwrap him. (If it's chilly unwrap just his arms.)

-Hold your baby in an upright position on your lap or shoulder.

-Talk to your baby. Change how fast you talk and the pitch of your voice. (Babies usually like high-pitched voices.)

Option B:

-Hold your baby about 8 to 10 inches from your face.

-Talk to your baby.

-Hold your hand above your baby's eyes.

-Shade your baby's eyes from the lights.
