Apart from the immediate problems with self-consciousness that can come along with acne, the scars it can cause may linger a long while. So what can you do to help blemishes go away faster?

The first step is to reduce how much acne you have to begin with. Appropriate skin care (and keeping your hands away from your face) can help with that.

There are some lotions you can get over-the-counter to help work on treating acne and acne scars. You can also consult a dermatologist to get stronger topical treatments and prescriptions to help as well. But there are more aggressive treatments you can try, too.

Dermabrasion is one option. During this procedure, the top layer of skin gets scrubbed off. Deeper acne scars may only be reduced, but ones closer to the surface should vanish. Talk to a doctor about whether this option for you if you have an active acne outbreak, though.

There are also laser treatments. The laser zaps the outer layer of your skin and heats up the layer below. The point is to trigger new skin formation – skin sans scars.

If you don’t want to get all fancy (and expensive), though, there are some home remedies people swear by. Ice, potatoes, tomatoes and cucumbers are all rumored to help with acne scars.

Other purported home remedies include aloe vera, lemon juice, lime juice, tea tree oil, olive oil, rosewater and vinegar, among others. For more information, see How to Get Rid of Acne Scars.
