How to Transition From the Gym to Going Out

Tips for Going Out Straight from the Gym

The most important thing you can do is start at the beginning -- the beginning of the day, that is. If you want to make a clean transition from the gym at the end of your workout, you'll need to make a list before you even leave the house in the morning. Think of it as a very short camping trip. Do you have the essentials?

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Comb
  • Razor
  • Deodorant
  • Towel
  • Fresh clothes

Those are just the basics to get you looking fresh and clean. But what about those clothes you packed for going out? Naturally, you don't want them to look like they've just been pulled out of a gym bag. Keep in mind when you're packing to roll up those fancy duds instead of folding them. If you still have an unsightly spot or two, flick some water from a faucet on them, then hold the clothes under a hand dryer [source: Potts]. If your gym doesn't have a hand dryer, make a point of packing a hair dryer from home.

Here's where a lot of guys blow it. They look and smell clean and their clothes are pressed, but their hair leaves something to be desired. If you have thick or long hair, remember to pack gel to bring that mane under control. If you find that you continue to sweat after your workout and shower, pack talcum powder. Sprinkle just a little into your hair. It'll soak up excess oils and leave your head nice and dry. Remember, however, that talcum powder is sold either scented or unscented. Some scented varieties smell like traditional baby powder -- you don't want to smell like a newborn's nursery room. One final note -- skip the powder if you use hair gel. The two products together could create a clumpy mess.

With planning and a little know-how, you can transition from exercise to play and look terrific doing so.
