Sex Questions You Might Be Afraid to Ask -- but Should

We tell our doctors all sorts of personal information, but when it comes to asking questions about sex, many of us are afraid to speak up.

When it comes to sex, our curiosity knows no limits. Unfortunately, our personal knowledge about it does. American researcher Alfred Kinsey recognized this back in the 1940s when he began collecting data (including 18,000 interviews) about Americans' sexual practices and behaviors. At that time, people didn't discuss sexual issues in public forums as they do today. His books, "Sexual Behavior in the Human Male" (1948) and "Sexual Behavior in the Human Female" (1953), made for rather riveting reading and opened the door to a more frank and honest discussion about human sexuality.

Nonetheless, Kinsey didn't succeed in destigmatizing sex and our questions about it. Though we can, not many of us frequently pose such questions to our doctors. We can bring them up with friends, but they often have the same questions themselves. And many of us don't even talk much about sex with sexual partners.

So what are 10 questions you might be afraid to ask -- your doctor, your lover or yourself -- but should? Read on to find out.
